Friuli
This piece takes advantage of the punt on the base of a wine bottle. There is a lot of different speculation regarding the purpose of the punt. The most commonly agreed upon idea is that it makes the bottle more stable. When bottles were first being made it didn't take long to discover that those with a perfectly flat base tended to tip over easy. Thus, the punt became a symbol of a stable bottle. We take advantage of the punt by using it as a receptacle for the bonded neck of a bottle we cut. Friuli has a base and top made from a Burgundy style bottle. A tealight candle holder is them permantly bonded in the interior of the cut and polished upper portion. It's design is similar to Lazio and Emilia but with a taller profile. |
